About BNJ Legal.

BNJ Legal is a Texas business, tax, and estate firm based in Flower Mound. We serve business owners and high-net-worth families whose affairs require more than basic planning — often clients with $3 million or more in assets, closely held business interests, or concentrated or inherited wealth, or with comparable planning complexity — who need sophisticated counsel without the expense or infrastructure of a full family office. Our work spans M&A, tax planning and controversy, outside general counsel, and estate & family advisory.

Our story
“I want to start a firm — and I want to do smart people law. I think you can put that together.”
Jason Niehaus, on the idea that became BNJ

He was right. Scott Bodkin put it together — which meant building something a little unconventional: one of Texas’s leading appellate litigators, surrounded by lawyers trained in tax. On paper, pairing an appellate practice with a tax-and-transactions practice doesn’t obviously add up. We built it that way on purpose — around the work we care about and the people we like practicing alongside, rather than around a tidy business plan.

Renee Jolley joined in 2018, bringing board-certified estate and probate depth to the same table. Over the years we’ve been lucky to practice alongside some genuinely smart lawyers — Amanda Dickson, Jeff Tasker, and Margo Dorris among them — and, honestly, we’re just happy to be here, doing smart people law with people we like.
